"Besnijdenis" (Circumcision), an etching by Gabriel Huquier (1695-1772), depicts the biblical event of the circumcision of baby Jesus. This work, created before 1732, showcases Huquier's mastery of line and detail. The intricate composition, set in a grand architectural space, captures the solemnity of the ritual as a group of figures, including Mary and Joseph, observe the event. This print, now in the Rijksmuseum, offers a glimpse into the religious imagery popular in 18th-century Europe.
