This is Grazia Varisco’s 'Tavola magnetica. Omaggio a L.F.', a magnetic board sculpture, a form of artmaking as a system of experimentation. There's a pale, cool ground, almost clinical, against which dark, magnetic rods stand, creating a subtle dance of order and chance. Varisco is playing with the idea of movement, inviting us to consider how the slightest shift can alter our perception. The rods, like musical notes on a staff, imply a melody, but one that’s always in flux, never quite settling into a predictable tune. Notice how the texture of the rods contrasts with the smoothness of the board; it's tactile. This piece reminds me of Lygia Clark, in the way it invites interaction and embraces the unpredictable nature of materials. Like Clark, Varisco is more interested in posing questions than providing answers. It’s a piece that lingers in the mind, a quiet meditation on the poetics of motion and the beauty of impermanence.
