Tadeusz Makowski created this painting of field flowers with oil on canvas. I can imagine Makowski layering the paint, building up the image of this vase. This guy lets the paint do its thing, with a muted palette and a soft touch. It makes me think about the fleeting nature of beauty, how flowers bloom and fade. Do you see that initial ‘A’ sketched in the left-hand corner? I wonder if he began another painting and then this one took over. The flowers have this ethereal quality, like they're about to float off the canvas. The texture feels almost velvety, doesn't it? Makowski had such a way with light, capturing the delicate balance between shadow and illumination. The background strokes are rough, like he was trying to capture a moment in time. Maybe he wanted to show how simple things can be beautiful, like a bunch of wildflowers in a vase. That's what painting is all about, capturing a moment, an emotion, a feeling. Makowski’s painting continues to inspire new ways of seeing and thinking.
