Carel Adolph Lion Cachet made this design for a plate with a garden view, using watercolor and graphite. It's all blues and whites, soft and dreamy, like a memory. I wonder what Cachet was thinking about, making this? I can imagine him, brush in hand, carefully building up these botanical forms. See how he uses the circular format, contrasting the hard geometry of the border with the soft, organic shapes of the garden view in the middle. The garden itself feels both formal and wild. That repeated motif, the one on the plate's edge, is interesting - sort of floral, sort of abstract. What do you make of it? Artists are always riffing on each other, borrowing ideas across time, and Cachet is part of that conversation. Painting is an act of embodied expression, and the beauty of this design lies in its ambiguity, leaving room for endless readings, thoughts, and feelings.
