Curator: Edward Ruscha's print, "Wilshire Grant La Brea Powell Highland Beverly OFarrell Geary Powell Hyde" offers a sparse map of intersecting streets. Editor: Right. At first glance, it looks like a washed-out memory, or the ghost of a city grid. The subtle color palette is really evocative, almost watercolor-like. Curator: The superimposition of street names disrupts any clear cartographic legibility. It is a network reduced to its most basic elements. Editor: It feels almost dreamlike, like navigating a city you used to know. The blurred lines and overlapping names create a sense of disorientation, a beautiful urban haze. I think it speaks to the transient nature of places and memories. Curator: Perhaps. The arrangement deconstructs the very notion of place into pure signifiers, an exercise in linguistic formalism. Editor: Whatever you say, I see the urban poetry of it all, really makes you want to jump in your car and get lost.
