Leo Putz made this painting, *In der Badewanne II*, with oil on canvas. The whole thing shimmers with thick, juicy brushstrokes of white, yellow, and peach. It's like he was stirring the paint right on the canvas! Check out how he sculpts the figure with these strokes, especially around the leg that's closest to us. The paint is so tactile, you can almost feel the texture of the skin and the cool, slick surface of the tub. It’s a real, sensuous experience! Then there’s this sort of odd, greenish cast to everything that adds a funky, dreamlike quality. Putz reminds me of someone like Bonnard, maybe, in that he takes something as straightforward as a woman in a bathtub, and turns it into this total, head-scratching puzzle of color and light. It’s like he’s saying, “Hey, painting isn’t about showing you something, it’s about making you feel something.”
