Salvador Dalí made this dreamscape in 1966 with watercolor and ink on paper, and it’s a great example of how artmaking can be a process of discovery. The colors are translucent, almost like a memory, and the ink gives the piece structure. You see the horse, the castle, the cubes... but it's all dissolving, like thoughts that are just out of reach. Look at the lower part of the work, the inky shapes. They’re dark and dense, contrasting with the lighter, more ethereal washes of color above. It’s like a storm brewing, or maybe the subconscious bubbling to the surface. Dalí reminds me a little of Sigmar Polke in that he’s not afraid to mix media and let the process show. There is a real sense of play and experimentation, and, like all good art, it asks more questions than it answers.
