Jeanne Françoise Ozanne created this print of the Place Louis XV in Paris, using etching, sometime in the 18th century. Notice how the composition is anchored by symmetry, with the buildings on either side mirroring each other, creating a balanced, almost architectural framework. This symmetry, however, is disrupted by the animated figures and carriages populating the scene. The etching technique gives a sense of depth through the varying densities of line work, creating a textured, lively surface.
