Here's a collection of photographs by Senga Nengudi, titled "Ceremony for Freeway Fets." They document what looks like performance, a ritual of sorts, and the atmosphere in these images is thick with mystery and feeling. I can imagine Nengudi with her camera, moving through this liminal space beneath the freeway, trying to capture something fleeting. What kind of relationships were being built here? What did it feel like to witness it, to photograph it? Was it an act of celebration or mourning? These are photographs of encounters, experiments with form and movement, and improvisational exchanges. They invite you to witness a moment, a gathering, and hint at the emotional undercurrents running through it all. Like the experimental work of other artists, the photos are full of play, inviting a new way of seeing and imagining.
