This gelatin silver print, by an artist named Robert Burian, captures a golf tournament. It's an image of an event, but it’s also about the means of production: a tractor, repurposed as a viewing platform. The photograph itself is a result of a chemical process, but the tractor also speaks to the industry behind the game. Consider the labor involved in making the photograph, versus that involved in organizing the tournament. It makes you think about the different ways that we assign value. Here, the traditional distinctions between fine art and craft are challenged, asking us to consider the cultural significance embedded in everyday objects and labor practices.
