Albrecht Behmel's Iron Man is made of lots of little figures, and it’s all about how the process of making something can be just as exciting as the final thing. Look closely, and you'll see that the surface is made up of different shapes and colours that come together to make the form of Iron Man. The paint isn't trying to hide anything. It’s not about making a perfect image of a superhero. Instead, it’s about showing how many tiny pieces make a whole. There's this one spot on his arm where the colours bump up against each other, these reds and blues pushing and pulling, like they’re dancing together. This feels like a conversation with someone like Guston, who also wasn’t afraid to show the messiness of making. In the end, it’s not about what it looks like but about how it feels to make it, and how that feeling jumps right off the canvas and grabs you.
