"Axell-ération" by Evelyne Axell, crafted in 1965 with oil paint, exudes a distinctive pop-art aesthetic. One is immediately struck by those shiny red shoes against the mustard yellow and olive green background. Curator: Yes, and consider the dynamism achieved through these juxtapositions. The simplified geometric forms, almost emblems of domesticity, and those voluptuous, brightly hued feet clad in patent leather. Editor: There's certainly an erotic charge to this image. The choice of materials is significant here; oil paint lends itself to those smooth, almost hyperreal surfaces, particularly on the shoes. I am thinking about Axell's experience as a TV presenter early in her career; she certainly understands the power of surface and presentation. Curator: And how these choices of material and hue create symbolic resonances!
