Ad Dekkers made this ‘Untitled’ work on paper with pencil. It looks like a meditation on stillness and balance. The paper is off-white, almost like old linen, a subtle grid made of very fine pencil lines. Dekkers invites us to consider the negative space, the parts of the artwork that aren't physically there. I find my eye wandering around the composition, moving from one point to another, searching for connection and meaning. There's a quiet beauty in the simplicity of the lines and the way they interact with the surrounding space. The texture of the paper is smooth, which gives it a subtle warmth. Dekker's work has a lot in common with Agnes Martin. Both artists explore the concept of minimalism and use simple shapes and lines to create a sense of harmony. Much like Agnes Martin's work, this piece embraces ambiguity, resisting the temptation to impose a singular interpretation.
