Editor: This is a photograph of Dane Hall by George Kendall Warren. It's an older building; I am curious about what this image can tell us. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see a visual assertion of power and permanence, common in architectural photography. The classical revival style speaks of a specific historical moment and its values. Do you see the bare trees? They could represent the silencing of marginalized narratives. Editor: That’s interesting. I hadn't considered the lack of foliage as symbolic of something being silenced. Curator: Consider how the structures of power are built not just in stone, but also through images, and who benefits from the preservation of that power. Editor: Thanks, I will keep that in mind when analyzing architecture going forward.
