Karlo Zvirynsky’s ‘Verticals’ is a boxy, upright world, full of standing forms. I'm imagining him applying paint, maybe building it up layer by layer, deciding to make those vertical marks, each one a little different. I wonder what he was thinking as he made it. Maybe he was thinking about a forest, or a city? The texture is key here, right? It's not just flat color; it's got a real physical presence. You can almost feel the bumps and ridges. Those vertical gestures, they’re not just lines; they communicate a sense of uprightness, even resistance. I think it relates to other work of his, but also all kinds of other artists who are trying to express something about the world through simple forms. Painting is an ongoing conversation, right? We inspire each other, even across time. Ultimately, painting embraces ambiguity. There’s no single way to read it, and that’s the beauty of it.
