Eduardo Nery made this painting, Desmaterialização - Ascensão, and it’s kind of a trip, right? The first thing that hits you is how he builds up these almost pixelated color fields. It’s like he’s dissolving form with light. Looking closer, you can see this incredible texture. The color feels almost like it’s been breathed onto the canvas, soft and gauzy. The way these cubes are rendered, they seem to be floating away, like they’re not quite solid, not quite there. And the light, it’s coming from everywhere and nowhere, creating this feeling of transcendence. The way the light bleeds out from the cubes makes me think of some of Agnes Martin’s softer grids, but with this wild, almost sci-fi twist. This piece is all about transformation, not knowing, about art being an open question.
