Pierre Alechinsky made ‘Rattle-less Snake’ with lithography, layering colours like he was building up a world. I imagine Alechinsky feeling like a kid playing, spontaneously making marks, letting shapes emerge and shift. It's like he's saying, "What if a snake didn't have a rattle? What else could happen?" The snake itself is like a piece of playful calligraphy, twisting and turning in yellows and greens, with a background of dark greens. I think, “ah, maybe the snake is in a jungle”. And then there's that border! It's like a frame of consciousness, filled with scribbles and doodles. It's a mental space for the snake, a place where new ideas and expressions can slither in. I think back to Miró and his automatic drawings, that same kind of playful curiosity to see what emerges. It's all part of this big, ongoing conversation.
