"Slaapkamer met ratten die de pruik van Doctor Syntax opeten," or "Bedroom with rats eating Doctor Syntax's wig," is an 1820-1822 hand-colored etching by Thomas Rowlandson. This satirical work depicts a man emerging from a four-poster bed in a state of panic as rats devour his wig, a humorous commentary on the social anxieties of the time. The detailed and expressive style of Rowlandson, a renowned caricaturist, brings this humorous scene to life. Currently housed in the Rijksmuseum, this small print (151 mm x 239 mm) captures the essence of Rowlandson's talent for social observation and comic exaggeration.
