Bird's nest 1750 - 1760

This porcelain box, titled "Bird's Nest", was created by the Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory between 1750 and 1760. The small sculpture, only 2 1/4 inches in diameter, depicts a family of birds nestled in a nest. The delicate details of the birds' feathers and the intricate rendering of the nest showcase the artistry of the Chelsea manufactory, known for its high-quality porcelain and finely painted details. This miniature work is a prime example of the rococo style, popular in the 18th century, with its emphasis on delicate ornamentation and playful subject matter. "Bird's Nest" is currently housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
