Rochelle Blumenfeld made "Bridges", a large painting, with oil paint, and probably a rag or two! It's a symphony of grays, whites, and earth tones, like a landscape seen through a fogged-up window, smudged and reworked. Up close, the surface reveals its secrets: thin washes layered over thicker, more opaque strokes. It's like she built up the image bit by bit, scraping back and adding, a real push and pull. Look at the way the light catches on those horizontal marks at the top - they're not just strokes, they're paths, passages, traces of movement. You can almost feel the artist's hand at work, wiping and layering, as if trying to capture something fleeting and ephemeral. The color palette and application makes me think of Diebenkorn's Ocean Park series – that same sense of light and space distilled through abstraction. Both artists embrace ambiguity, inviting us to wander through their painted worlds without a fixed destination in mind.
