Gary Wragg made this huge painting called Magician’s Hand, and right away you can see he's not holding back – the making of this painting was a whole process. The painting's got these blocky shapes, like a city at night, maybe, scratched out from the darkness. There's this wild energy in the marks, like Wragg was wrestling with the paint. I love the red lines snaking around, connecting everything, or maybe trying to escape. It's like he’s mapped out a whole world right there on the canvas. Looking at how he layers the paint, you can almost feel the push and pull, the back and forth of his decisions. Wragg reminds me a little of Cy Twombly, both of them just going for it, trusting the process, and letting the painting lead the way. It's a reminder that art isn't about answers, but about the questions we ask along the way.
