Editor: This photograph, "Untitled (baby fawns and cow)" by Jack Gould, shows a cow seemingly interacting with fawns. It’s a striking image, but I'm not sure what to make of it. What do you see in this piece? Curator: This image, especially given its inverted tonality, can be interpreted as a commentary on imposed hierarchies and our relationship to nature, particularly within capitalist structures. Consider the cow, a symbol of domestication and agricultural exploitation, juxtaposed with the wildness of the fawns. What does their interaction suggest about the boundaries we create between the natural and the artificial? Editor: That’s a perspective I hadn't considered. It reframes my understanding of it. Curator: Exactly. And it reminds us to question the power dynamics inherent in how we perceive and interact with the animal kingdom. Editor: I'll definitely be thinking about this piece differently now! Curator: Me too!
