This is Carel Begeer's 'Offerbus' made in silver. It's a shiny, metallic form and it has got me thinking... I imagine Begeer in the silversmithing workshop, carefully shaping the metal, considering the relationships between the different parts, figuring out just how shiny it needs to be! This object is so reduced, so smooth, and so utterly without apparent narrative. It’s almost implausible! The shape is so cylindrical, the surface so reflective, and the lip so perfectly placed. It’s hard to know what to make of it - but it reminds me that any artistic material is capable of so much! The conversation between artists is always evolving, shifting between abstraction and representation. This object invites us to look and think, to discover new ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
