Editor: This is an untitled print by Barnett Freedman. I'm immediately drawn to the textures and how they frame the central image. What can you tell me about the process behind this piece? Curator: Freedman was a master lithographer. Consider the labor involved in creating these textures. The way the image is framed suggests a critical awareness of the means of production. Are we meant to contemplate the process of its making? Editor: That’s interesting. So, you’re saying the materials themselves are as important as the image? Curator: Precisely. The interplay between the depicted image and the print's materiality challenges traditional boundaries between art and craft. Editor: I hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks for offering that perspective! Curator: It's all about looking at the materials and understanding the work that goes into it.
