This is Picasso’s "Still Life with Vases," painted with oils, and I find it so interesting how he uses the medium here. The earthiness of the color palette creates a sense of intimacy, like we’re peering into someone’s private world. The brown and gray is quite tonal but it creates a warm contrast with the amber and red of the jugs. There’s a tangible quality to the paint itself, it's as if Picasso wasn't just depicting these objects, but actively constructing them on the canvas. I love the way the brushstrokes are visible, especially in the rendering of the two jugs. You can almost feel the movement of his hand as he worked. This creates a sense of immediacy and invites us to engage with the painting on a physical level. It reminds me of Morandi’s still life paintings. Both artists share an interest in exploring the subtle nuances of everyday objects, but in Picasso, there’s this underlying energy. It's a beautiful reminder that art is always a conversation, each artist building upon the ideas of those who came before.
