Mimmo Rotella made this piece by tearing posters off walls, a process he called "decollage." It's all yellows, browns, blacks, and creams, a symphony of urban decay. I love the raw, ripped edges; they give me a tactile sense, like I could peel them back myself. I imagine Rotella, in the heat of the city, wrenching these fragments from their moorings. What was he thinking, feeling? Was he pissed off, or was he feeling playful? The bits of text peeking through remind me of Schwitters, but there's something more visceral here. Maybe it’s the rough handling of the material. Each tear feels like a gesture, a decision. It reminds me that making art isn't about answers; it's about asking questions, embracing uncertainty. Artists build on each other, pulling threads from the past, and unraveling them in new ways.
