Editor: This is an untitled work by Blinky Palermo, created sometime before his death in 1977. It features a simple grey oval on a white background. It’s… surprisingly calming. What do you see in this piece? Curator: This oval, so centrally placed, echoes the ancient symbol of the Vesica Piscis – the almond shape formed by the intersection of two circles, an emblem of connection, a threshold. Does its muted grey suggest a space for contemplation, a meeting place of light and shadow? Editor: That’s fascinating! I wouldn’t have considered such a rich symbolic reading. Curator: Palermo often reduced form to its essence. He challenges us to find meaning in simplicity, to recognize how even minimal shapes can be imbued with cultural memory. Editor: I see it now; the power of suggestion is quite strong. Curator: Indeed. It's a powerful testament to the lasting impact of symbols and their ability to transcend time and culture.
