Dimensions 80 x 60 cm

Małgorzata Serwatka created this 80 by 60 cm artwork, *Confabulatory Dream*, using what appears to be graphite, ink and collage. The composition strikes you as a juxtaposition of realism and abstraction, with a portrait emerging from a collection of seemingly unrelated images. The grid of circles at the top and the paint swatches at the bottom, impose a sense of order, in contrast to the dreamlike quality of the central figure. This layering creates visual disruptions that challenge any singular interpretation. The contrast between geometric shapes and the flowing lines of the woman’s hair creates a tension, destabilizing conventional modes of representation. The artist is clearly interested in the interplay between order and chaos, reality and illusion. The geometric patterns could be read as a system of signs, hinting at hidden structures within the dream narrative. It invites us to question the relationship between what is seen and what is imagined.
