Ľudovít Čordák made this landscape, probably in oil on canvas. Look how the marks create a sense of atmosphere, almost like a memory of a place. The paint is applied in layers, some thin washes and other areas built up with thicker strokes. You can almost feel the texture of the grass and the distant hills. Notice the way the light catches the slender trees, their trunks painted with quick, confident strokes. The sky is a blend of soft blues and greys, with a flock of birds barely visible, adding a sense of depth and distance. This area of sky is beautiful and seems to glow from within. It reminds me a little of Corot, with its quiet observation and focus on tone and light. But Čordák has a slightly rougher, more immediate touch. For him, as for Corot, it’s not about capturing a perfect likeness, but about conveying an emotion.
