This is a ribbed plate, decorated with vegetative ornaments, made by N.V. Plateelbakkerij Ram. I’m really drawn to the way the artist has handled the glaze here. It's so thin, almost translucent, allowing the light to bounce off the surface and revealing the subtle variations in color and texture underneath. You can see the way the glaze pools in certain areas, creating these beautiful, shimmering effects. It feels like a real embrace of process, like the artist is saying, "Here it is, flaws and all!" And those colors! The pale greens, browns, and pinks create a feeling of earthiness and reminds me of springtime. I love the way the artist has used line to define the forms. It gives the composition this graphic quality that's really appealing. Overall, the effect is quite charming. It brings to mind the work of pattern and design artists like William Morris. But where his work is often quite elaborate, this plate has a more delicate, almost tentative quality that's all its own. It’s a reminder that art is always in conversation, constantly building on what came before, and pushing in new directions.
