Edward White made this painting of an Economite Bowl with Handle on paper, but we don't know when. It's a quiet symphony of browns and tans, colours you might find in the earth itself. The brushwork is smooth, almost meditative, giving the bowl a solid, grounded feel. Notice how the light catches the inside of the bowl, making it glow like it's holding a secret. The artist's gentle shading gives depth to the handle, making it look so inviting. I love how the colours blend seamlessly, almost like the bowl is growing out of the paper itself. You could say that Edward White, through this careful handling of the material, echoes the work of Giorgio Morandi who made a life's work from painting simple bowls and bottles. It's a reminder that even the most ordinary things can be beautiful. And that art, like life, is an ongoing process of exploration and discovery.
