This photograph titled "Twee mannen op een muur van het fort van Pharijong," shows us two men on a stone wall, captured by D.T. Dalton. The monochromatic tones give it a timeless feel, like a scene from a half-remembered dream. The wall itself is this incredible stack of stones, each one unique. It's like looking at a painting built from pure texture. I find myself wondering about each individual stone, where it came from, and how it found its place in the wall. You can almost feel the roughness under your fingertips, the weight of history pressing down. The light in the photo creates this play of shadows, accentuating every little bump and crevice. It reminds me of the work of Vija Celmins, who also has this incredible focus on texture and surface. It's not about grand narratives or flashy colors, but about taking the time to really see the world around you. And isn't that what art is all about? Finding beauty in the unexpected, and embracing the ambiguity of it all.
