Albert Geuppert’s drawing of a plane, made with graphite and colored pencil on paper, presents a complex interplay of textures and tones. Just imagine Geuppert, pencil in hand, leaning in close, tracing every line, every curve. The artist captures not just the object, but the essence of the material. You can almost feel the grain of the wood and the cool slide of the metal. Look at the top right corner, the artist has captured the plane in a different way, in a kind of abstract technical drawing. It's a plan, not just a plane. I love how Geuppert shares his thought process with us. I wonder what he would think of Agnes Martin, who also drew grids and lines to create something so much more. In the end, isn't that what art is all about? Taking something ordinary and showing us the extraordinary within?
