Editor: This is an untitled series of wedding photographs by Martin Schweig. I'm struck by the raw, almost documentary feel. What stands out to you about these images? Curator: I'm drawn to the process itself. This isn't about idealized beauty, it's about capturing a social ritual. Note the uncropped film strip, the indexicality of the medium. What labor went into this image, both by the photographer and the subjects? Editor: So, it's more about the making and the social context than just the wedding itself? Curator: Precisely. Consider how the means of photographic production have democratized image-making, blurring lines between personal documentation and artistic expression. What does that tell us about cultural values and the consumption of these images? Editor: That’s a different way of seeing this. Thank you.
