Eyvind Earle made this print, Ocean Cliffs, using painstaking detail. Look at how Earle repeats these simple little shapes, like commas or capsules. They build up to become something bigger, but they never quite lose their individual identities. I see the artist’s hand in every single mark. It’s so meticulous, but not in an uptight way. More like he’s got all the time in the world to get lost in this process. The overall effect is hypnotic, a real deep dive into pattern and texture. The contrast is really striking. You get these stark whites against solid blacks, creating drama and depth. The shapes create the cliffs, the water, everything. It reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin's grids, but wilder, more organic. Both artists share this love of repetition, pushing simple forms to create complex visions. Earle invites us to slow down, to see the world in a grain of sand, or maybe a pebble on a beach.
