Charles Ernest Pont made this linocut titled 'Corona Dump '29', and what I love about prints like this is how they show the hand of the artist in every mark. There's no hiding, just a direct transfer of the idea to the surface. The stark black ink on white paper creates an amazing contrast. Look closely at those parallel lines radiating from the clouds. They give the piece a sense of depth and drama. It's all about the push and pull of light and dark, positive and negative space, a real material dance. I think of someone like, oh, I don’t know, maybe Emil Nolde? His bold, graphic woodcuts also use contrast to create powerful emotional effects. Ultimately, this print isn't just about a landscape; it's about a way of seeing and feeling the world, one precise mark at a time.
