Cyprián Majerník made this self-portrait with ink on paper, and it's all about the process, you can just see it. The ink lines are super active, scribbling over themselves. I mean, look at how Majerník builds up the beard with this chaotic layering. It’s not about precision, it’s about searching for a form, feeling it out. The texture here is all in the lines, thick and thin, dark and light. Notice how the lines around the eyes are denser, heavier, really digging in, while the hair is more like a loose, breezy scribble. It gives the face this incredible depth of feeling, like the artist is grappling with something. It reminds me of some of the early drawings by Picasso, that same raw energy and intensity. Both artists use line to explore the depths of human emotion, embracing the messy, unresolved aspects of being. It’s a reminder that art isn't always about answers, sometimes it’s about the questions.
