This beautiful buckle in silver was crafted by Theodore B. Starr, sometime in the late 19th century. Look at the curling tendrils, the flowing leaves, and the face with a slightly worried expression. I can just imagine Starr, with his tools and his bench, patiently chasing the silver. He coaxes the metal into these intricate shapes. The silver itself, so malleable, so reflective. A material that seems to hold light within it. When I look at this buckle, I feel an intimate connection to Starr. I can almost feel the pressure of his hand. The careful movements, the focused attention. Each mark a testament to skill and dedication. He probably looked at artwork from the past for ideas. Artists are always talking to each other. I think there’s a beauty in knowing we're part of a long, ongoing conversation. A conversation that transcends time and place. It's something bigger than us, right?
