This writing table, or bureau plat, was crafted by Jean-François Leleu between 1775 and 1785. It is a prime example of French furniture from the Louis XVI period. The table, crafted from mahogany, features elegant, fluted legs and intricate gilt-bronze mounts that emphasize the refined style of the era. The intricate design and craftsmanship of the table, now housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, exemplify the elegance and sophistication of French decorative arts in the late 18th century.
