Edgar Negret’s "Madre e hijo reclinados" is a sculpture built from interlocking, flame-red metal sheets and rivets. Imagine Negret in his studio, wrestling with these metal forms. The industrial materials, the sheer scale of the thing – it’s not just about shaping metal, but pushing it to a point of near collapse while finding its balance. The red is so intense. It's almost like the feeling of blood rushing to your head, a physical response. Maybe that’s what Negret wanted. I wonder if he saw the red as representing some kind of life force? Negret was interested in how geometric forms can evoke organic or emotional resonance. The way those metal strips bend and curve reminds me of the twisting and turning of life itself, with its ups and downs. And it reminds me that artists are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring one another across time.
