Editor: This beauty, circa 1755-1765, is a wood-carved wall clock – it's currently hanging out in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It has all of the details associated with the Baroque style! It makes me feel like I should be sipping tea in a dimly lit parlor. What details do you see in this piece? Curator: Ah, a doorway into another world, isn’t it? To me, it's like gazing into a secret garden through a portal of meticulously carved wood. Do you notice how the wood seems to almost breathe? Editor: Yes! The wood carving has this intricate detail. All the ornamentation makes it look as if it is organic. Curator: Exactly! I imagine the artist, John Jones, embracing the soul of the tree as if the carving became a conversation. Almost like nature reminding us of the ephemeral dance between time and timelessness. This Baroque piece certainly encapsulates decorative art from the 18th Century! The movement wanted every piece to be as detailed as the next. And here we are. Does that change your initial perception? Editor: That does reframe my initial view; the conversation between time and nature wasn't present, but now I definitely see it. Thank you! Curator: My pleasure. It's like each tick of this clock carries a story, whispered from the trees to our ears! Now I feel like making a clock of my own, don't you? Editor: Absolutely! Thank you for sharing all of that. I am taking notes!
