Editor: This is Jack Gould’s small black and white photograph, "Untitled (hospital patients in wheelchairs)." The rows of patients seem caught between inside and out, and I find that quite poignant. What's your take on it? Curator: The inverted tones create a ghostly effect, don’t they? It reminds me of a half-forgotten memory, a glimpse into a shared experience of institutional life. Notice how the wheels create a rhythm, a visual echo of lives circling in place. What feelings does that evoke for you? Editor: It makes me feel a bit unsettled, as if these patients are waiting for something that may never arrive. I hadn’t considered that visual rhythm before. Curator: Exactly! And perhaps that’s Gould’s subtle commentary. It’s a work that whispers more than it shouts, wouldn’t you say?
