This photograph, titled 'Rollenpers', was taken by an anonymous artist at an unknown date. It's a black and white image, and it captures what appears to be a long row of rolling presses inside a factory. I can almost feel the artist behind the camera, trying to capture the enormity and the repetition of the machines. What were they thinking as they framed this shot? Were they trying to show the power of industry, or maybe the monotony of labor? The way the machines recede into the distance reminds me of those endless landscapes you sometimes see in surrealist painting – where the perspective just keeps going and going. Photography, like painting, is about light and shadow, texture and form. It’s a conversation across time, each artist building on what came before. It's about expressing something in a way that feels true, even if it's ambiguous, leaving space for us to bring our own interpretations.
