Requena Nozal has created this fragment from the Murano series with what looks like thick, luscious paint, plopped down with an almost edible quality. Imagine the artist, maybe lost in thought, letting each color land just so, building up this little universe of gem-like forms. I’m really drawn to the way the paint sits on the surface—it's not trying to blend or disappear. Each dollop has its own presence, its own texture, sitting alongside the others. Look at that orange swirl, like a tiny flame, or maybe a piece of candy, sitting next to the cool blues and greens. It reminds me of some of the abstract expressionists, like Joan Mitchell, who were so good at making paint feel alive. There's this sense of ongoing conversation, with artists borrowing and building on each other's ideas, using the language of paint to explore new ways of seeing and feeling. It’s not about one right answer, but about keeping the dialogue open.
