Francisc Sirato made 'Square in Balcic' with a muted palette, giving us a hazy view of this town square. It's so interesting to think about how he chose these colors, how he mixed them, the order in which he applied them. Look at the way the paint sits on the canvas. It's thin and almost chalky, like he was trying to capture the fleeting light of a summer day. Notice the strokes in the upper left corner, they’re loose and almost watery, creating this dreamy effect. And the rooftops! Each one is a slightly different shade, giving the whole scene a sense of depth and complexity. I think of other painters who've used color in similar ways, like Bonnard or Vuillard, and it makes you realize that art is a conversation across time, each artist responding to what came before. Sirato invites us to slow down, to see the world in all its subtle, shifting beauty.
