Cy Twombly made this painting, *Camino Real (IV)*, with his distinctive swirling marks in strokes of orange and red over a pale green ground. I imagine him moving around the canvas, maybe on the floor, wrestling with the image and letting those drips cascade like molten lava. He might've been thinking about history, myth, or poetry, who knows? But painting for Twombly was about making these epic, raw gestures, letting them stand for something beyond words. The paint is thin, fluid, almost like watercolor, but the scale is huge. Look how those loops seem to reach out, like arms flailing or maybe dancers twirling. There's a real tension here. I see echoes of Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, all those painters pushing the limits of what paint can do. Artists are constantly in conversation with each other, borrowing, stealing, and transforming ideas. Painting is about embracing uncertainty, knowing that there's no one right way to see or feel, so let those marks guide you.
