Oleg Holosiy made this 90 by 94 cm painting, Palmistry, with what looks like oil on canvas. The first thing you notice is the wildness of the marks, the bravado. It's like he's wrestling with the paint, trying to pin down some slippery truth. Look at the table in the foreground. It's not just a table, it's a stage, smeared with greys and whites. The paint is thick, alive. You can practically feel the push and pull of the brush. There are objects on the table, maybe fruit? And a hand, hovering, reaching out. What does it mean to read a palm? To try and know the future? Holosiy doesn't give us answers, just these bold, messy strokes. His work reminds me of someone like Francis Bacon, that same raw energy, that willingness to let the paint do its thing. It's not about perfection, it's about digging into the messy heart of things. And honestly, isn't that what art is all about? A never-ending conversation, a constant questioning.
