Editor: This is Richard Wilson's "Valley with a Bridge over a River," held at the Tate. I find it incredibly evocative; it’s got this hazy, almost dreamlike quality. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Well, beyond the obvious beauty, I see Wilson grappling with the sublime. Look at how the light seems to emanate from that obelisk, almost challenging the figures in the foreground. Do you feel that tension, that push and pull between the earthly and something...more? Editor: Definitely. It's like they're drawn to it, but also dwarfed by it. So, it's not just a pretty landscape, it's a statement about humanity's place in the world? Curator: Precisely. And that ambiguity is key, isn't it? Wilson leaves us with questions, not answers. It’s about feeling, about being lost in something bigger than ourselves, which I think is truly magnificent. Editor: I hadn't considered that! I thought it was just landscape. Curator: It’s that and so much more. I hope you found something bigger than yourself.

Possibly from Turner's collection. The attribution has been debated between Wilson, his studio and Turner. If there is a connection with Turner, the picture may have hung at Queen Anne Street. Gallery label, August 2001
