This is a photograph of a bird's nest with eggs, made by Adolphe Burdet. It's got that sepia tone, a kind of gentle light. I can only imagine what it was like to see the eggs, and wonder how Burdet felt when he saw them. I bet he was nervous about documenting nature's most intimate moments, which must have been scary, but he did it anyway! The texture of the nest and the smooth skin of those eggs-- I can feel the life that they represent. There's something so beautiful about this little slice of nature captured in the photo. It reminds me that art doesn't always have to be this grand statement, but just a quiet moment of observation. You know? Like when Agnes Martin paints those grids, we feel like we've entered a meditative state, and it's the same with this photograph. It's like Burdet is saying, "Hey, look at this amazing thing that exists in the world."
