This stereoscopic photograph of a bridge over a rushing river was created by Neville Keasberry in Java. It's a moment captured, but also constructed, through the very specific process of stereoscopic photography, which kind of doubles the image. I'm drawn to the texture in the riverbank, it looks so tangible. I'm thinking about what it would have felt like to stand there. The grey, hazy light flattens everything out, but the river almost pulses with energy, like you could reach out and feel the cool spray on your skin. And then there's the bridge, a man-made structure imposed on the landscape. The muted palette, the almost obsessive detail in the foliage, reminds me of some of the Hudson River School painters. But there's something off-kilter too, a kind of double vision that makes you question what you're seeing. Art isn't about answers, right? It's about opening up a space for questioning.
